2 Day Breast Cancer Walk

This weekend….

There aren’t many things that I will miss my weekend workouts for… but every October there is one event that I plan for and must complete. For the past six years, I have walked in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. This is a 2 day walk that covers almost every borough of NYC.  The walk is broken down into a marathon (26.2 miles) day 1 and a half marathon (13.1) day 2.  So, in total we walk about 40 miles (unless you get lost like we did).   We are required to fundraise $1800 and at the closing ceremony they gave away $8.3 million dollars to researchers, community organizations, and clinics in the tri-state area.

I love this event, and every year I hear more and more stories and I am inspired by so many people. The honest truth is, cancer shows no mercy. Everyone, in some way has been touched by some type of cancer and this is just one way to honor and remember those.

This weekend, I walked with thousands of people from all over CT, NY, and NJ.  I learned a lot about myself and was able to utilize skills that I’ve learned at the Training Floor.  Sounds silly right… not really. When has any trainer ever let you quit?  That’s just something that TTF has put into our heads. Now sure, after 7 hours of walking your body is screaming.  But think about it, how mentally tough have we all become from being a part of The Training Floor?

The Training Floor is many things to me, but I honestly could not have completed my weekend without it. I finished in the top 50 out of 5,000- and without training, I would have been broken and blistered.  So, when life gets difficult, it is so easy to look back and see how far you have come and how to be grateful for life.

Thanks TTF
